Nicholas Godel and his family left the port of Havre, France on March
27, 1843 on the ship Narragansett. Here is the info on the family
Nicholas Godel: Age 36 Barbara Godel: Age 38 Jean: Age 14 Magdalena:
Age 12 Georges: Age 10 Nicolas: Age 6 Jean (Louis): Age 4 (Victor)
Etienne: Age 1 After landing in New Orleans, this family traveled to
Belleville, Illinois and are found on the 1850 census there in Clinton,
Co. After the 1850 census they seemed to disappear. I do find a Mary
Godell in the 1860 census...same co. but age of 22 and she doesn't fit
with the family in 1850 or on the passenger list because of her age. It
does state that she was born in France...perhaps a neice of Nicholas?
Where did the family go? I am searching this family as they had a dau.
named Mary who was born there in Ill. in 1845 and she married a William
R. Smith from Liverpool and became my great great grandparents. I don't
know where they met or where they married. But they do show up again in
the 1880 Madison Co. Illinois with 2 children, Josie and August Smith.
Any help at all would be appreciated....on any of these Godel's Jamie
