Surnames: HUNZIKER HUNZICKER HEDIGER HEDICKER KALKBRENNER
Submitter: Robin Hunziker (rmhunziker@mapllc.com)
Date: 20 Dec 2000

In 1863, Maria Anna (Annie) Hunziker immigrated to the U.S. from Gontenschwil, Switzerland with her father, Hans Rudolph, and 4 siblings: Maria (Mary), Rudolph, Elizabeth, and Adolph. According to a barely legible copy of a passport. Annie was 19 years old when she immigrated. (Therefore she was born around 1844.) Old notes indicate that she married one "John Hediker". In researching, I have found only one "Hediker" and that person was located in Kentucky. However, Hedigers are abundant in Madison County and thereabouts. In particular, I have noted that a John Hediger resided in Clinton County around that time. Clinton County marriage records indicate that an Anna Hedicker (nee Hunzicker) married Caemus Kalkbrenner on 26 Feb 1895 so I am also interested in any information regarding his family. Does this fit with any of your records?

Surnames: COSTA
Submitter: GARY COSTA (gcosta@inertia.com.au)
Date: 08 Oct 2000

My Grandfather (Cristiano Costa)who was born in Asiago, (province of Vicenza), Italy, was known by the family to have lived in Clinton, Illinois. We understand he would have arrived in the USA between 1910 and 1914 and stayed until approx 1926. We are making this enquiry from Australia, his son (Gino) having emigrated to Australia from Italy. None of Cristiano's children were born in the USA, but we are hoping to learn something of his time and his life there. It is known he was called up to the US Army for WW1, and joined around 1917/1918. Therefore there must be some Army record somewhere. Any information (or directions) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Gary Costa

If anyone is researching the Rinker family, I thought they might be interested in a sentence from a letter my grandfather, Herman H Jenning, wrote to his sister, Anna (Jenning) Treloggen on Dec 28, 1905, from the family farm near New Memphis, IL. After writing about family matters he wrote: "Did you hear of Fred Rinker? He died about 3 weeks ago with lock jaw. He cut one of his hands a little while fixing up a stove pipe. It healed up at first but about a week later he took the lock jaw from it."
