Vincent Thien Dies From Injuries in Auto Accident

Vincent Thien, 37, a resident of Breese the past sixteen years, died in St. Joseph’s Hospital here at 11:58 Monday night. His death followed an automobile accident that had occurred Monday of last week at 7:30 p.m. Returning from his work at Belleville, his 1955 Buick crashed into a concrete culvert two miles west of Breese. He was alone in the car, and it is presumed his car skidded on the wet pavement. He was picked up from the pavement unconscious and brought to the local hospital. Head injuries as well as internal injuries were the cause of his death.

Mr. Thien was born at Germantown June 10, 1919, son of Joseph and Mary (Kohnen) Thien. He was married to Miss Marie Woltering June 6, 1942; at Camp Forest, Tenn. where he was stationed while in the U. S. Army.

Besides his wife, he leaves six children, namely, Robert, Donald, Ronald, Mary Lou, Judy and Deborah, all of home. He also has five brothers, namely, Edw. Thien, with the U. S. Army in Japan, Victor Thien of Kansas City, Kansas, Joseph Thien of Alton, Raymond Thien of Highland and Ervin Thien of Woodriver.

He had been employed as a laborer foreman for the Fournie Construction Co. of Belleville.

He was a member of the Timmerman-Benhoff Post of the American Legion, the Hod Carriers Union No. 459, Teamsters Union No. 50 and St. Augustine Church.

The body is in state at the Moss Funeral Home in this city.

The funeral will be held Friday morning in St. Augustine’s Church, starting at 9 a.m. Rev. Humilis Soland, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Dominic’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be fellow workers of Mr. Thien, namely, Hilbert Fournie, Gerard Riebling, Wilbert Waller, John Jones, Paul Davis and Wayne Phillips.
