NEW MEMPHIS MAN FOUND DEAD ON OKAW RIVER

Mr. Fred Brueckner, a well-known resident of New Memphis, was found dead in his boat on the Okaw River at 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon by Henry Wangler. He left home Friday noon and started in his boat a mile south on the river to go to his truck farm. It is believed that he fell into the water and became chilled. The boat got caught in some brush in the river. Life was almost extinct when the body was found and he died in a few minutes.

Deceased was born in New Memphis on July 20, 1869, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Brueckner. His father died many years ago. He was engaged in truck farming near New Memphis. Surviving him is his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Brueckner and one sister, Katie, wife of Wm. F. Maul, of Lebanon, and one brother, Conrad Brueckner of Chicago. Dr. Timmerman, of Carlyle coroner of Clinton County held and inquest the verdict of the jury being accidental death. The funeral took place this afternoon at 1:30 from Moll’s funeral parlor in this city to the Mascoutah City Cemetery. Rev. F. H. Austermann, pastor of the Methodist Church, conducted the funeral services.
