William Benhoff Passes Away Here Late Wednesday Afternoon

William Benhoff, a life time resident of this vicinity, and a man who was very well known by the towns people as well as farmers here, died at his home on the South side yesterday afternoon, at 3:45 o’clock, at the age of 63 years; 9 months and 14 days.

Mr. Benhoff had apparently been in good health until this winter, when he was troubled with carbuncles, and a short time ago was attacked with influenza, which developed into pneumonia, and gradually grew worse.

Deceased was born in St. Louis April 30, 1860, and when only three months old came to a farm north of Breese with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Casper Benhoff. Since he was 23 years of age, he was a resident of this city.

He was married to Miss Mary Kramer in St. Rose by Rev. Kamann May 14, 1889. Mr. Benhoff was employed in the East mine for about 23 years but the past seven years he was unable to work.

He leaves to mourn his departure, a bereaved wife, seven children, Anna, Casper, John, Frank, Celia, Bertha and August; two brothers, John Benhoff of Quincy and Henry Benhoff of ST. Louis, and six sisters, Mrs. Pete (Mary)Barth of St. Louis, Mrs. B. V. (Anna) Richter, Mrs. Peter (Theresa) Heyer, Mrs. B. J. (Cath) Schwarz and Mrs. Ben (Eliz) Richter all of Breese and Mrs. Frank (Rose) Heidemann of Germantown, besides a large number of other relatives and friends.

A son Joe preceded him in death Oct. 7, 19919, while is service during the World War, and a girl, Leona died when 18 months old.

Mr. Benhoff was a kind, respected gentleman, a man who no one could say a wrong word of and his death brings sadness not only to his loved ones, but to his many friends here as well.

He was a member of the St. Augustine’s Church the Married Men’s Sodality and the German Benevolent Society.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 9:30 o’clock from the St. Augustine’s Church and the remains will be interred in the St. Dominic’s Cemetery.

He was a valued member of these organizations and held in high esteem. He attended church regularly and lived a life that will please God and one that sets a good example for those who follow him.
