BURNS FATAL TO AGED CARLYLE WOMAN

The death of Mrs. Martha Cameron, aged 72 years, one of the oldest residents of Carlyle, occurred at 7:45 o’clock Monday evening, the result of burns sustained about 5:30 Sunday afternoon at her home in Carlyle. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon from the family residence.

With Mrs. Cameron lived her brother, James Reynolds, and her little grand daughter Velma Cameron; who was not at home when the distressing accident occurred. The aged lady was making preparations to get supper, and in adjusting the gasoline stove, spilled some of the fluid on the stove, floor and her woolen dress. When she struck a match and attempted to light the burner there was a flash and the fire spread to her dress. Her brother tried to render assistance but is not very active. He called for help and Chester Morris, the c1osest neighbor, answered the call. By that time Mrs. Cameron, her dress a mass of flames, had reached the porch from the kitchen, and her brother had dashed some water on the flames. Mr. Morris told his wife to bring a blanket, which she did, and wrapped the same around the body of Mrs. Cameron and smothered the fire, and thereby kept her from probably meeting instantaneous death. Doctors J. W. and W. L. DuComb were summoned and found that the aged woman had been terribly burned about the head, arms and body. She seemed some better Monday, and told, about the accident, but late that afternoon she suffered intensely, pasing away several hours afterward.

The deceased was born near Nashville but had lived in Carlyle and vicinity for 64 years. She is survived by four children, Mrs. Emily Nadieu of Southbridge Pa., John and Chas. of Carlyle and Roy who lives in Connecticutt; also two brothers, David and James Reynolds of Carlyle; five grand children and number of other relatives.
