Herman Grapperhaus

Herman A. Grapperhaus, 88, of Breese died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at his residence.

He was born April 28, 1914, at Highland, the son of Adelheid (Kampwerth) and Joseph Grapperhaus. On June 6, 1949, he married Beatrice A. Huelsmann of St. Rose.

Herman was a member of St. Dominic Parish, St. Joseph's Men's Sodality, St. Dominic Resurrection Choir and American Legion Post 252, all of Breese.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Duane J. (Carol) Grapperhaus and David M. (Diane) Grapperhaus of Breese; a daughter, Donna M. (Stephen) Lancey of Breese; six grandchildren, Karen, Kevin, Jeffrey and Lisa Grapperhaus and Amanda and Jonathan Lancey; a sister, Mary R. "Mayme" Goestenkors of Breese; two brothers, Joseph (Christine) Grapperhaus of St. Louis, Mo., and Lawrence (Marcella) Grapperhaus of St. Charles, Mo.; and a sister-in-law, Marie Grapperhaus of Trenton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alvin Grapperhaus; two sisters, Gertrude Rakers and Anna Grapperhaus; and two brothers-in-law, Fred Rakers and Theodore "Dick" Goestenkors.

Visitation was held Friday evening and Saturday morning at Hempen Funeral Home in Breese. The Rev. Patrick Peter presided at the funeral Mass Saturday at St. Dominic Church. Interment was in St. Dominic-St. Augustine Cemetery, Breese.

Memorials may be made to St. Dominic Church, St. Joseph's Hospital or the donor's choice.
