OLD SETTLER DIES AT AGE OF 89 YEARS

The death of Henry Hinkamp occurred Saturday night at 9:45 o'clock. He died at his home, two miles north of Breese, at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 14 days, probably one of the oldest settlers in this territory. The cause of his death was old age. He had been feeling quite well until about ten days ago when it was necessary that he be in bed. From that time on he slowly grew worse.

Mr. Hinkamp had spent his entire life quietly and peacefully around Breese, occupying himself as a farmer. He was born April 3, 1836, on the Hinkamp farm, south of Breese, now owned by Theo. Haar. Mr. Hinkamp was often heard to remark about he and his father killing deer at that place.

Mr. Hinkamp was one of the early settlers who saw the first train that ran through Breese on the Baltimore & Ohio railroad tracks.

In 1859 Mr. Hinkamp was married to Miss Mary Balke of Breese. She was a sister to Henry Balke of this city and Mrs. Annie Peek, who is also a resident of this city. After a married life of six years duration, Mrs. Balke was claimed by death. In 1867 Mr. Hinkamp was married for the second time, to Mrs. Richter, who preceded her husband in death by 12 years. He had been living on the farm where his death took place.

He leaves to mourn, his son William at whose home he died, two daughters, Mary Goldsmith and Anna Altepeter of Groom, Texas; and two grandchildren, Lizzie and Maggie Goldsmith, the later who has been keeping house for her grandfather and uncle.

The funeral was held Tuesday morning at 9:00 o'clock from the St. Dominic's church in this city.
