Brad E. Deien, 48, of Breese died Saturday, July 26, 1997, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Granite City.

He was born in Breese on Dec. 8, 1948, son of Elmer "Emmy" and Ruth (Horstmann) Deien. His parents survive in Breese. He married Sandy Kuhl on May 8, 1982, at St. Felicitas Catholic Church in Beaver Prairie, and she survives in Breese.

Also surviving are a stepson, Chad Kuhn of Breese; a stepdaughter, Stacey (Brad) Varel of Breese; a sister, Bonni (Dean) Mickelson of Bartelso; his maternal grandmother, Katherine (Rohr) Horstmann of Breese; two nephews, Wyatt (JoVanna) Mickelson of Highland and Wade Mickelson of Bartelso; and two great-nieces, Hayle and Hayden Kay Mickelson of Highland.

Brad was plant supervisor of Jefferson Smurfit in Highland. He was a member of St. Felicitas Catholic Church in Beaver Prairie and Breese American Legion Post 252 in Breese.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese with the Revs. Damien Dougherty and Melvin Haas officiating. Interment was in St. Dominic Cemetery in Breese.

Memorials may be made to VNA of Illinois or the American Cancer Society. They will be received at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
