Bernard Thien Died Here Friday Night

Bernard Thien, a resident of this city for many years passed away at the home of his daughter, Helen, last Friday at 10:45 o'clock p.m.. His death was caused by a complication of ailments. Mr. Thien was a well known and respected man of this community, honest and industrious who worked hard and always had a kind word for his fellow man. His death is keenly felt by relatives and friends alike.

Deceased was born in Conception, Mo., the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Thien. In his early youth he came to Breese and here he married Mary Voss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Voss. He followed the vocation of coal mining, working in the old West Mine here and later in the East Mine, to which local he belonged at the time at his death. Mr. Thien reached the age of 68 years.

To this union 2 children were born, Pauline and Helen Deien, of this city. His wife preceded him in death, passing away on Oct. 3, 1928 as did his brother Joseph who died in early childhood.

Those surviving are his two daughters and the following brothers and sisters: Benedict of Breese; Joseph of Norfolk, Neb.; Sister Armella, a Nun of the Poor Handmaids and Mrs. Anna Gilbert of St. Louis; also seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. from St. Augustine Catholic church with Rev. Eckert officiating. The body was laid to rest in St. Dominic's Cemetery here.
