Paul F. Zinschlag, 93, of Beckemeyer, died Tuesday, Jan. 27th, 2004, at his home.
He was born on July 16th, 1910, in Breese, the son of William and Augusta Wulze Zinschlag, and they preceded him in death. On July 16th, 1935, at St. Anthony’s Church in Beckemeyer, he married Mary A. Pax, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 18th, 1986.
Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy O’Connell of Eden Prairie, Minn.; a son, Howard Zinschlag of Chesterfield, Mo.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Harriet Quinn of Carlyle and Sylvia Stewart of Avon Park, Fla.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence May and Myrtle Newkirk.
Mr. Zinschlag graduated form Carlyle High School in 1928 and Rankin Technical College in St. Louis, Mo., in 1932. He worked at the American Smelting and Refining Company in Beckemeyer before being employed at Scott Air Force Base as an electrician, retiring in 1978.
He was a member of St. Anthony’s Church in Beckemeyer, Knights of Columbus Council 1382 in Carlyle, Carlyle Senior Center and the Clinton County Farm Bureau. He served as a member and secretary/treasurer of the Beckemeyer/Wade Township Fire Protection District for over 50 years and served on the board of the Village of Beckemeyer.
He operated the Princess Theater in Beckemeyer and in the 1940’s and was an amateur radio operator, call sign WB9CXO and served on the Wade Township Road and Bridge Trustee Committee. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, playing pinochle and playing pool at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Carlyle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 31st, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church in Beckemeyer, with Fr. Church Tuttle and Bob Lippert officiating.
Interment was in St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Beckemeyer.
Visitation will be on Friday, Jan. 30th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Jan. 31st, from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle.
