Helen M. Peters, 85, of Carlyle died Saturday, Jan. 17th, 2004, at Carlyle Healthcare Center in Carlyle.
She was born on March 22nd, 1918, in Carlyle, the daughter of Adam and Lena Enkelmann Frey. On March 26th, 1940, at St. Anthony’s Church in Beckemeyer, she married Joseph A. Peters, and he survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Rosemary Hellige of Breese, Juliane Boeckmann of O’Fallon and Kathleen Biggs of Anna; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Esther Dorries of Breese.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Eleanor Maslo.
Mrs. Peters was a homemaker and baker for many area restaurants. She was well known for her meringue pies and many Christmas cookies that she baked and sold throughout the county. She was an avid quilt maker with her specialty being appliquéd quilts.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle, where a Mass of Resurrection was conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 20th, at 10 a.m., with Fr. George Mauck officiating.
Interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation was at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle.
