Art Hoerchler, 82, of Bartelso died Monday, Feb. 2nd, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

He was born on Jan. 28th, 1922, in New Baden, the son of Anton and Josephine Kreke Hoerchler, and they preceded him in death. On April 15th, 1947, at St. Felicitas Church in Beaver Prairie, he married Freda Seelhoefer, and she preceded him in death on July 11th, 1992.

Surviving are two sons, Francis “Butch” Hoerchler of Bartelso and Ken “Cub” Hoerchler of New Baden; four daughters, Mary Jane Timmermann of Germantown, Diane Toennies and Audrey Carvotta, both of Bartelso, and Marilyn Varel of New Baden; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Edwin Hoerchler, and a sister, Lenora Hoerchler.

Mr. Hoerchler lived in Bartelso since 1950. He was employed at Kohrmann Electric and a later at Scott Air Force Base as a civil engineer, retiring in 1987. He served on the Bartelso Village Board from 1967-1985. He was mayor of Bartelso from 1985-1997.

He was a WWII veteran having served in Okinawa, Japan. He was a life member of the Bartelso American Legion serving two terms as commander, Carlyle VFW, Catholic War Veterans, Bartelso Knights of Columbus, Catholic Fraternal Life, Clinton County Farm Bureau and St. Cecilia Catholic Church.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 5th, at 2 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso, with Fr. Henry Fischer officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Cecilia Cemetery.

Visitation will be today, Wednesday, Feb. 4th, from 4 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday, Feb. 5th, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.
