Shelton C. Davis, 76, of Carlyle died Saturday, Jan. 31st, 2004, at his residence.

He was born on Sept. 17th, 1927, in Clanton, Ala., the son of Benjamin and Sarah Littleton Davis. On June 2nd, 1949, in Jemison, Ala., he married Virginia Johnson, and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Terry Kruep and Cindy Rensing, both of Carlyle; three sons, Peter “Glen” Davis of Carlos of St. Peters, Mo., Shelton Wayne Davis of Carlyle, and Ronnie G. Davis of Davenport, Iowa; 21 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; a sister, Clara Nell Mims of Clanton, Ala., and a brother, “Doc” Davis of Clanton, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Eunice Boyd; two sisters, and eight brothers.

Mr. Davis retired from the U.S. Navy and later became a dietician at Christian Northwest Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. He later managed the Carlyle Sailing Association. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion.

Funeral services were conducted today, Wednesday, Feb. 4th, at 11 a.m. at Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle, with Rev. Steven Goodin officiating.

Interment with military services followed in Carlyle Cemetery.
