John B. ‘Jack’ Vahlkamp, 76, of Breese died Tuesday, Feb. 3rd, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.
He was born on Oct. 25th, 1927, in Wade Township, the son of John H. and Rose Wilken Vahlkamp, and they preceded him in death. On Oct. 25th, 1950, at St. Augustine Church in Breese, he married Jane Richter, and she survives.
Also surviving are a son, Alan Vahlkamp of Centralia; three daughters, Julie Huels of Carlyle, Lisa Tebbe of Nashville and Rose Huelskamp of Breese; 15 grandchildren; five sisters, Willene Fehrmann of Highland, Rose Marie Husmann of Breese, Lillian Fleckenstein of New Milford, Conn., Mary Huwa of Wheat Ridge, Colo., and Lee Love of Albers; and two brothers, Fred Vahlkamp of Decatur and Vernon Vahlkamp of Carlyle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Collette Vahlkamp.
Mr. Vahlkamp was a retired dairy and grain farmer. He was a Korean War veteran serving from 1951 to 1953 as an army field radio repairman.
He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and Men’s Sodality in Breese, past 30-year trustee of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle, 50-year member of Carlyle Knights of Columbus Council #1382, and 50-year member of Breese American Legion Post 252.
He also was a member of Catholic War Veterans, past secretary of the Clinton County Zoning Board, past vice president of the board of Clinton County Farm Bureau, past president of MidAm Milk producers of 25 years and the Holstein Fresian Association.
A funeral mass was celebrated on Friday, Feb. 6th, at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese, with Fr. Chuck Tuttle officiating.
Interment was in St. Dominic-St. Augustine Cemetery.
Visitation was at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
