Gene ‘Geno’ Hamilton, 65, of Beardstown died Tuesday, February 3rd, 2004, at his residence.

He was born May 1st, 1938, in Beckemeyer, the son of James and Amanda Truetken Hamilton, He married Estella Isaak on June 30th, 1962, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle, and she survives.

Also surviving is his mother, Amanda Hamilton of Beckemeyer; a son, Kirk Hamilton of Salisbury, N.C.; a daughter, Denise Rogers of Beardstown; six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one step-great grandchild; and three brothers, Jerry, Danny and Mike Hamilton, all of Beckemeyer.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Hamilton, and his son, Darren Hamilton.

Mr. Hamilton attended St. Anthony’s School in Beckemeyer and served in the U.S. Army in Germany and New York State. He was a member of St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown, the Beardstown B.P.O. Elks Club and the Men’s Golf League at Scripps Park in Rushville.

On June 20th, 1960, he began as a winder operator for Textile tubes (later Alton Packaging) in Carlyle. In 1971, he and his family were transferred to Beardstown with Alton Packaging (later Jefferson Smurfit/Stone and now Caraustar) and within the corporation he advanced to general manager of the Beardstown plant.

Mr. Hamilton thoroughly enjoyed golfing with his friends and was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Chicago Cubs.

A funeral mass was celebrated on Friday, February, 6th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown, with Fr. Eugene Weitzel officiating.

Burial will be in St. Alexius Catholic Cemetery in Beardstown.

Visitation was at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown.
