George H. Hemker, 80, of Bartelso died Monday, Feb. 9th, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese.

He was born on February 26th, 1923, in Germantown, the son of Bernard and Sophia Frerker Hemker, Sr., and they preceded him in death. On Nov. 24th, 1949, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carlyle, he married Marie Wiese, and she survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Ronald Hemker of Andrews, Ind., Dale Hemker of Bartelso and Gerald Hemker of Germantown; three daughters, Charlotte Timmermann of Beckemeyer, Pat Steinkamp of Bartelso and Mary Ellen Brown of New Minden; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Bernard Hemker, Jr., Edward Hemker, Sr., Henry Hemker and Vince Hemker; and five sisters, Margaret Varel, Sr. Bernawarda Hemker, Sophia Beer, Catherine Hemker and Josephine Hemker.

Mr. Hemker was retired from farming. He was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church and Men’s Sodality in Bartelso, Bartelso Knights of Columbus Council 4745, Clinton County Farm Bureau, Mid America Dairy Association and Bartelso Young at Heart Club.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 12th, at 2 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Bartelso, with Fr. Henry Fischer officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Cecilia Cemetery.

Visitation will be held today Wednesday, Feb. 11th, from 4-9 p.m. and on Thursday, Feb. 12th, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.
