Fredric W. “Doc” Reitz, O. D., 71

Fredric W. “Doc” Reitz. O. D., 71, of Breese died Saturday, Oct. 23rd, 2004, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 27th, 1933, in Waterloo, the son of Frederick and Leora Reinhold Reitz, and they preceded him in death. He married Mary Kutterer June 16th, 1956, at Immaculate Conception Church in Columbia, and she survives in Breese.

Surviving is a son, David Reitz of Breese; three daughters, Susan Willis of O’Fallon, Pat Henrichs of St. Rose and Diane Foppe of Germantown; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Glen and Aaron Reitz, both of Waterloo, and Neil Reitz of Elmhurst; and three sisters, Orlou Burkemper of Waterloo and Germain Leingang and Carol Reitz, both of Costa Mesa, Calif.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Reitz; three brothers, Roger, Leroy and Floyd Reitz.

He owned and operated Dr. F. W. Reitz Optometry in Breese. He graduated from University of Illinois and Illinois School of Optometry. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and Men’s Sodality, Breese Knights of Columbus Council 2869, Illinois Optometric Association, past president of Breese Jaycee’s, Concordia Saengerchor, Mater Dei Fathers and Friends and past school board member of Mater Dei High School.

A funeral mass was celebrated today, Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese, with Father Church Tuttle officiating.

Burial followed in St. Dominic-St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese.

Visitation was at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.

The Breese Knights of Columbus prayed the rosary Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
