Claudine Howard, 86

Claudine Howard, 86, of Beckemeyer and formerly of Coal Valley, died Saturday, July 24th, 2004, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home in Aviston.

She was born May 30th, 1918, in West Plains, Mo., the daughter of William Claude and Luella Gumbel McGinty. She married Harry Howard on Sept. 17th, 1948, in Fort Smith, Ark., and he preceded her in death Feb. 28th, 1977.

Surviving is a son, William H. Howard of Beckemeyer; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She retired from the Army Weapons Command, Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, and had lived in Coal Valley until moving to Beckemeyer in 1996.

While living in Coal Valley, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and after moving to Beckemeyer became a member of the United Methodist Church in Beckemeyer. She enjoyed playing the organ and piano.

Graveside services will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island.

There will be no local visitation or services.

Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle is in charge of arrangements.
