Margaret L. Apple, 93

Margaret L. Apple, 93, of Marine died Wednesday, July 21st, 2004, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

She was born Jan. 26th, 1911, in Alhambra, the daughter of Ernest George and Henerietta McMichael Voigt, and they preceded her in death. On Nov. 11th, 1947, in St. Jacob, she married Freeland L. Apple, and he preceded her in death Jan. 10th, 2001.

Surviving is a brother, Kenneth R. Voigt of Alhambra.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert A. and Wilbur C. Voigt.

She was born on the family farm between Alhambra and Marine. She grew up there and graduated from Highland High School in 1928. She worked for the St. Jacob Telephone Co. for a year and then the St. Louis Dairy from 1931 to 1950.

She and her husband moved to Crest Hill in 1958 and she worked for the city of Crest Hill for several years. They returned to Marine in 1978 and lived here ever since. The Apples traveled extensively and had visited 42 states plus Mexico and Canada. She volunteered in the community.

She was a member of Unity Chapter #403-Order of Eastern Star in Marine where she was a past Matron twice and a Worthy Matron in 1991. She was also a past member of the Matron’s Club in Marine, United Church of Christ of Marine, church women’s guild, American Legion Post 1147 Ladies Auxiliary in Alhambra and Royal Neighbors of America in Highland.

A funeral service was held Saturday, July 24th, at 10 a.m. at United Church of Christ of Marine, with Rev. Philip H. Kershner officiating.

Burial was in Marine Cemetery.

Visitation was at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.
