Duane A. Munie, 83

Duane A. Munie, 83, of Pierron died Saturday, March 6th, 2004, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland.

He was born on November 30th, 1920, the son of Arthur Paul and Emma Elizabeth Indermill Munie, and they preceded him in death. On November 27th, 1947, at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Troy, he married Eleanor Cecelia Loyet, and she survives.

Also surviving are seven sons, James, David and Larry Munie, all of Highland, John “Jack”, Denis and Roger Munie, all of Pocahontas, and Edward Munie of Pierron; four daughters, Jean Weber of Pocahontas, Janet Eversgerd of Pierron, Carol Meffert of Highland, and Lynn Munie of Atlanta, Ga.

Also, 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and four sisters, Esther Lacy of Assumption, Cleda Munie and Beatrice “Bea” Kniepmann, both of Highland, and Doris Holthaus of Pana.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Cyril, Norman, Ernest and Quintin “Bob” Munie, and a sister, Eunice Munie.

Mr. Munie was born east of Pierron in Burges Township on the Munie family farm where he grew up. He continued to operate the grain farm until selling it in 1974. He also helped his brother, Cyril, with the Munie Gravel Pit and started his own gravel pit in 1975.

He attended mass everyday. He was a good father and caring grandfather. He had built a cabin and a lake near Pocahontas so he could enjoy his hobby of fishing. He enjoyed deer hunting with his sons, watching softball and rabbit hunting this past year.

A funeral mass was celebrated today, Wednesday, March 10th, at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pierron, with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Paul Sheridan officiating.

Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Pierron.

Visitation was at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland.
