Granville Max Green, 86
Granville Max Green, 86, of Surfside Beach, S.C. and formerly of Carlyle, died Wednesday, March 3rd, 2004, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach S. C.
He was born on May 8th, 1917, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Granville Walter and Oma Mendenhall Green. On June 11th, 1941, in Ft. Collins, Colo., he married LaDonne Clement, and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter Donna Stanford of Surfside Beach, and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Max Clement Green a sister, Jean Meyer, and a brother, Ward Green.
Mr. Green graduated from Ft. Collins High School and also attended Colorado Agricultural College and Denver Business School. He was a charter member of the Carlyle Christian Church, where he served as a former elder, deacon, and trustee and teacher.
Mr. Green was a 50-year member of the Southern Illinois Valley of the Scottish Rites in Belleville, a member of Ainad Shrine Temple in East St. Louis and Centralia Shrine Club. Mr. Green was a 50-year member and past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lodge #518 in Carlyle, now affiliated with Sandoval Lodge #715 in Sandoval.
He was a U.S. army veteran of WWII and served in the Aleutian Islands. Max was a 50-years member of the Goldsmith-Terry Post 3523 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Carlyle and a 50-years member of Ruf-Marchum American Legion Post 404 in Carlyle. He was the owner of Green Hatchery, the Kaskaskia Egg Company in Carlyle and Centralia Grain and Coal in Centralia.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, March 8th, at 10 a.m. at Carlyle Christian Church, with Rev. Dallas Nickel and Rev. Van Segars officiating.
Interment was in Carlyle Cemetery.
Visitation was at Zieren-Day Funeral Home in Carlyle.
