Fred Deutsch Dies at His Home Here Monday Evening

Was Chief of Breese Volunteer Fire Department. Funersl Services Thursday.

Fred N. Deutsch, age 53 years, died unexpectedly Monday [6 Nov 1950] evening at 8 o'clock at his home on N. Second Street in Breese. He became seriously ill after eating his evening meal, and died shortly thereafter.

The cause of his death is listed as due to complications. Three months ago Mr. Deutsch suffered a blood clot in his leg, and also complained of a chest ailment, and has not been working since. He entered Barnes Hospital at St. Louis several weeks later and remained there a few days for treatment, returning home the early part of September. Two weeks ago he suffered a stroke. Since that time it has been noticeable that he was gradually growing weaker.

Mr. Deutsch was born October 21, 1897, in Breese, and has lived there all of his life. He has followed the trade of painting during his lifetime, following that occupation as a result of his father, Anton Deutsch, being a painter.

On November 28, 1922, he was married to Miss Camilla Bingham of this city. Besides his wife he is survived by five children, Mrs. Hilbert Keilback [Keilbach] of Belleville, Fred of Joliet, Kyrle of Breese, Charles of St. Louis and Bill of home. His mother, Mrs. Catherine Deutsch of Breese, also survives him, with two brothers, Henry of Detroit, and Anthony of St. Louis, and four sisters, Mrs. Anna Lehey of St. Louis, Mrs. Cecelia Dawkins of St. Louis, Mrs. Mike Habich of Breese, and Miss Josephine Deutsch of this city. Two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Becker and Miss Catherine preceded him in death. There are also three grandchildren surviving.

Fred was a member of St. Dominic Church, the Painters Local, and was Chief of the Breese Volunteer Fire Department. He was always very active as a member of the local fire department and deserves much credit for his valuable services.

The funeral will be held Thursday morning in St. Dominic Church, beginning at 9:00 o'clock, the pastor, Rev Aydt officiating. Burial will be at St. Dominic Cemetery. The body lay in state at the Bruegge Funeral Home, near the Deutsch residence.

*Note: Fred was also married to Catherine Mary Poelker on 7 Jun 1917. She died on 18 May 1919 of pulmonary tuberculosis & influenza.
