OLD RESIDENT PASSES.
Anton Deutsch Succumbs to Attack Caused by Over Heat.
Our city was stirred on last Friday by the news of the death of Anton Deutsch. He had been overcome by heat a week before and had failed to rally when the Doctor was hopeful of his recovery.
He passed away on Friday, August 5, 1921, aged 65 years, 5 months and 1 day.
He followed the trade of painter and paper hanger throughout his life. He was one of the oldest members of the Concordia Saengerchor and of the W. C. U.
Anton Deutsch was born in Germany [Landstuhl] March 4 1856. He came to America in 1867 with his parents. In 1883 he married Catherine Berns. To this union were born nine children Mrs. Mike Lehey of St. Louis; Mrs Mike Habrchi [Habich] of Breese; Mrs. [Mr.] Hy. Deutsch of Encorse, Mich., Mrs. Wm. Dawkins, Carlinsville, Mrs. [Mr.] Anton Deutsch Jr., and Miss Rosa Deutsch of St. Louis; Misses Katie and Josephine and Fred Deutsch of Breese. These children, with the bereaved wife, mourn the loss of their father and husband.
Three sisters survive him: Mrs. Kate Gekemoth [Ickenroth] of St. Louis, Mrs. Will Aarns of Beckemeyer and Miss Anna Deutsch of Breese. Those who were present from out of the city were Mrs. Kate Gekemoth [Ickenroth] of St. Louis and her daughter, Mrs. Frank; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Aarns and family of Beckemeyer; Mr. and Mrs. Nic Berns and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Breford and daughter, and Mr. and Mrs. Anton Berns and family of Aviston; Mr. and Mrs. Hy. Berns, Ben and Wm. Berns, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bushman [Bussman] of St. Louis. Mrs. Mayme Schrader of Carlyle; Mr. and Mrs. Herm. Heet and family of Germantown; Hy. Jansen and wife of Bartelso; Mr. and Mrs. John Fuller, and Mrs. Herkemeyer of St. Rose, and Mr. Grammen Aviston.
The funeral of Anton Deutsch was held on Monday August 8th at 9:15 from St. Dominic's church. A large attendance indicated the respect with which the deceased was held. Burial was had in St. Dominic's cemetery.
