HAUKAP, Edward R

Edward R. HAUKAP, 80, Aviston, Ill., born June 14, 1916, in Germantown, Ill., died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 1996, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, Ill.

He retired in 1985 as a Custodian at Central High School in Breese, Ill.: member of St. Francis Parish and Men's Sodality; retired Aviston Volunteer Fireman; Charter member Breese Council 2869 Knights of Columbus; Charter and Honorary Life Member Aviston Council 11110 Knights of Columbus; Past Chairman Clinton County Democratic Party; and former Alderman and Mayor of Aviston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Helen, nee KORTE, Haukap; a sister, Emelia REICHERT; and two brothers and two sisters in early childhood.

Surviving are his wife, Marcella, nee KUES, Haukap, whom he married Nov. 23, 1943, in Aviston, Ill.,; three sons, Edward J. (Gerrie) Haukap of Aviston, Ill., Mike (Rita) Haukap of Aviston, Ill., and Dale (Kim) Haukap of Aviston, Ill.; a daughter, Connie (Jim) FRIERDICH of Lebanon, Ill.; five sisters, Pauline (Ed) VAREL of Bartelso, Ill., Emma NORDHAUS of Germantown, Ill., Helen (Fred) RANDANT of Germantown, Ill., Bernice (Quintin) MAEHLMANN of Carlyle, Ill., and Alice (Francis) KRUEP of Carlyle, Ill.; a brother, Elmer Haukap of Germantown, Ill.; and 11 grandchildren.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20 and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Brefeld Funeral Home in Aviston, Ill.

Funeral 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec 21 at St. Francis Church in Aviston, Ill., with the Rev. Daniel Friedman and the Rev. Bob Bussen officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery.

Prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Mater Dei High School Foundation.
