Four Generations of Descendants Survive Ellen N. BACKS 82

Funeral arrangements were held at the Messiah Lutheran Church Tuesday at 1 p.m. for Mrs. Ellen N Backs formerly of Carlyle, who died at the Hines Nursing Home in Centralia, at 4 p.m. Saturday following a long illness., The Rev. Robert MARTENS was in charge of the funeral service and burial in the Carlyle Cemetery.

Mrs. Backs was survived by four generations of descendants. She has three children,12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren

She was born in Washington County, Dec 9,1876 a daughter of William and Emily (HOLLY) STEIN and she and Louis Backs were married at New Minden Feb. 2,1896. He preceded in death in June of 1950.

Survivors include her three children, Mrs. John GRAYLING of Carlyle, John Backs of Sandoval and Mrs. Joseph PORZUKOWIAK of Beckemeyer; a brother August Stein of Centralia; and a sister, Mrs. Emma BARTH of Little Rock Ark. in addition to three generations of grandchildren.

The body was in state at the Frerker Funeral Home until moved to the church at 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday.
