AHLF, Ben L

Ben L. Ahlf, 78, of rural Carlyle died on Friday, March 21st, 2003, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese.

He was born on June 28th, 1924, in Clinton County, Ill., the son of Henry and Lillie Heinzmann Ahlf. On Sept. 9th, 1977, in Shattuc, he married Dorothy F. Quick-Wedekemper, and she survives in rural Carlyle.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, Gary Wedekemper of rural Carlyle, Gene Wedekemper of Brighton, Mich., Lynn Wedekemper of Carlyle, and Mike Wedekemper of Shattuc; three daughters, Patti England of College Station, Texas, Renee Ahlf of Lake Villa, and Julie Ramsour of Centralia; 15 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; and one brother, Darrell Ahlf of Sandoval.

Mr. Ahlf lived his life in Eastern Clinton County and Sandoval. He hauled milk for 20 years in his own truck and for Heinzmann. He farmed from 1968 to 1998 and also worked at Wedekemper Inc. of Ferrin for several years.

Ben had been a Meridian Township Trustee for 26 years and a 50 plus year member of the Sandoval Masonic Lodge No. 923, of which he was treasurer. He was a member of the Shattuc United Methodist Church, serving as chairman of the Administrative Board, and also was the V.P. of the Centralia Gideon Camp.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed shooting trap.

His funeral service was conducted on Monday, March 24th, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Shattuc United Methodist Church, with Rev. Harold Quick as officiant.

Burial was in Carlyle Cemetery.
