VANDELOO, Justin

Life-long Bartelso resident Justin "Jetty" Vandeloo died at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville on Monday, May 6th, 2002, at the age of 75 years.

A son of George and Frances Gross Vandeloo, Sr., he was born in Bartelso on June 4th, 1926. On March 3rd, 1962, in Carlyle, he married Dorothy "Dot" Hempen and she survives.

Besides his widow, survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Nancy Berrigan of The Woodlands, Tex.; three sons, Michael Vandeloo of Lebanon and Dave and Dan Vandeloo, both of Bartelso; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Jane (Bernard) Huels of Carlyle and Mrs. Julie Albers of New Baden and one brother, George Vandeloo of Bartelso.

Mr. Vandeloo was owner of Vandeloo Construction and a 50 year member of Carpenters' Local 433 in Belleville. He had specialized in building altars, baptismal fonts and other articles for area churches.

He was a member and trustee of St. Cecilia's Church in Bartelso and was a member of the Diocesan Building Commission. He was president of the Sanitary and Sewer District, director of Bartelso Savings/Germantown Trust and Savings Bank and board member of the Clinton County Electric Coop.

He also was a member of the Bartelso Knights of Columbus and Bishop Althoff Assembly of 4th Degree Knights. Sportsman's Club and Bartelso Community Development Club and had served as a fireman, board member and president the Santa Fe Fire Protection District for 47 years.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 9th, at St. Cecilia Church in Bartelso. Rev. Henry Fischer will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation is at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle from 3 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) and from 8 a.m. until noon Thursday.
