Bud Means, 86, of Carlyle, died at his home on Sunday, Aug. 12th, 2001.

A son of James Arch and Lillie M. Baxter Means, he was born in Carlyle on March 11th, 1915. He married Lenora "Norie" Newkirk in Carlyle on Oct. 9th, 1941. She died March 17th, 1985. He married Dolores Hodapp in Carlyle on Oct. 17th, 1987, and she survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Pat Beckemeyer of Wichita, Kans., and Mrs. Shelly Adsit of O'Fallon; four step-children, Cheryl Rakers and Tina McEllin, both of Champaign, Waynette Engel of Selkirk, N. Y. and Kent Wade of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two brothers, William and James Means.

Mr. Means was a retired rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the Beckemeyer American Legion and a past district commander of the American Legion.

Rev. George Mauck officiated at services held at St. Mary's Church in Carlyle at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14th, with burial following in the church cemetery.

The Frerker Funeral Home in Carlyle was in charge of arrangements.
