Steve Holtgrave, 79

Retired rural Breese farmer Steve W. Holtgrave died Sunday, Sept. 6th, 1998, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home in Aviston at the age of 79 years.

Born in Beaver Prairie on March 27th, 1919, he was a son of Bernard and Christine Tebbe Holtgrave. On April 8th, 1947, in St. Rose, he married Marcella Klostermann. She died Aug. 15th, 1961. On July 7th, 1972, in Germantown, he married Irene Litteken Haukap, and she survives.

In addition to his widow, survivors include one son, Dale Holtgrave of Aviston; five daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Poettker of Trenton, Mrs. Rita Gustin, Mrs. Ruth Giger and Barb Diekman, all of Highland and Mrs. Mary Thole of Aviston; one step-son, Jim Haukap of Belleville; one step-daughter, Mrs. Doris Kauling of Beckemeyer; 16 grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Holtgrave of Beaver Prairie and Alois Holtgrave of Breese and two sisters, Clara Haar and Ida Rensing, both of Belleville.

He was preceded in death by one son, Edward Holtgrave; two brothers, John and Otto Holtgrave and one sister, Bertha Holtgrave.

Mr. Holtgrave raised Shelties as a hobby. He was a member of St. Felicitas Church in Beaver Prairie, Mens Sodality of the church and St. Rose Development Club.

Rev. Ted Baumann officiated at services held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at St. Felicitas Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Visitation was at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
