Henry Hoffmann, 83

Funeral services for Carlyle resident Henry A. Hoffmann were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 17th, at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle. Rev. Jim Hilker officiated with burial following in Carlyle cemetery.

Mr. Hoffmann died Thursday, April 15th, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese. He was 83 years old.

A son of Frank and Martha John Hoffmann, he was born in New Baden on Dec. 23rd, 1915. On Oct. 4th, 1947, he married Clara Mahlandt. She died March 25th, 1979. On July 12th, 1980, he married Leona Peachey and she survives.In addition to his widow, survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Dixie Brown of Carlyle, two stepdaughters, Mrs. Marsha Hall of Lebanon and Mrs. Diana Leonard of Manassas; three grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Clara Ballard of New Baden and two brothers, Fred Hoffmann of Waterloo, Iowa and Max Hoffmann of Trenton.

Mr. Hoffmann had been postmaster at Shattuc until retiring in 1976. He had lived in Carlyle since 1977.

A life member and commander for seven years of Carlyle VFW, Mr. Hoffmann had served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He also was a member of New Baden American Legion; life member of Loyal Order of the Moose of Centralia; 802nd Engineers Group; New Baden Senior Citizens and United Church of Christ.
