Mike Haukap, 44
Aviston resident Mike Haukap died at his home on Thursday, May 22nd, 1997, after a short illness. He was 44 years old.
A son of Edward R. and Marcella Kues Haukap, he was born in Breese on Sept. 23rd, 1952. On July 31st, 1976, in Germantown, he married Rita Lampe, and she survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Erin Haukap, and a son, Ryan Haukap, both at home; his mother of Aviston; two brothers, Edward J. Haukap and Dale Haukap, both of Aviston; and one sister, Mrs. Connie Frierdich of Lebanon.
Mr. Haukap had been an electrician at National Steel in Granite City. He graduated from Mater Dei high school in 1970 and attended Kaskaskia College. He was a member of the Aviston Knights of Columbus, Charter Grand Knight and 4th Degree Bishop Althoff Assembly.
He was serving as the vice president of the Mater Dei Fathers and Friends Association, member of the Southern Illinois Basketball Officials Association, Southwestern Officials Association and Local 50 of National Steel.
He also was a member of St. Francis Church in Aviston where his funeral was held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 26th. Rev. Daniel Friedmann and Rev. Steve Witte officiated with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation was at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
