John Day, 75

John F. Day, 75, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Sept. 27, 1995, at Orangeburg, S.C., Regional Medical Center. A son of John Thomas and Chlora B. Jackson Day, he was born in Sandoval on Aug. 19, 1920. On Nov. 1, 1947, in Mt. Vernon, he married Lily L. Gehrs and she survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Elaine Stemetzki of Springfield, Va., and Mrs. Lori Halbach of Jacksonville, Fla.; three grandchildren; one brother, James R. Day of Sandoval and one sister, Mrs. Ruth Dove of Lake Placid, Fla.

Mr. Day had been employed in the Department of Defense in the Pentagon for more than 15 years. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1968, after serving 25 years. He was a member of the Jacksonville Area Golf Association and Jacksonville Naval Air Station Golf Association and was a scorer for the Professional Golf Association. He also was a member of the Manderin Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville.

Funeral services were held at the Zieren-Day Funeral Home in Carlyle at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery in Carlyle.
