Ralph W. Tonnies

Ralph W. Tonnies, 75, of Breese, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

He was born December 6, 1932, in Damiansville, to Fred and Euphimia (Markus) Tonnies and they preceded him in death. He married Florence Bergmann on August 25, 1962, at St. Cecilia Church in Bartelso and she preceded him in death February 7, 1975. He then married Helen (Schulte) Schwaegel on July 6, 1979, at St. Dominic Church in Breese and she survives in Breese.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by sons, Mike (Lynn) Tonnies of Germantown and Gary (Tina) Tonnies of Damiansville; daughters, Geralyn (Stuart) Oldham of St. Louis Mo. and Barb (Tom) Daly of Indianapolis, Ind.; step-children, Janice (Mike) Hajek of Maryville, Judy (David) Voss of Breese, Joyce (friend-Todd Beck) Raymond of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Dan Schwaegel of New Auburn Wisc.; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Dan (Myrtle) Tonnies of Albers, Fred Tonnies of Belleville and Jerry (Julie) Stockmann of Aviston; sisters, Florence (Vince) Arentsen of Damiansville, Vera Mullen of Shelton, Conn. and Betty Dwyer of Albuquerque, N.M.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his step mother, Veronica (Stockmann) Tonnies; brothers, Paul and Virgil Tonnies; step-son, Gary Schwaegel.

He was a retired farmer and an associate with Moss Funeral Home, a member of St. Dominic Church in Breese, American Legion Post 252 Breese and the Clinton County Farm Bureau.

A Funeral Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday, April 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Church, Breese with Fr. Patrick Peter officiating.

Burial followed at St. Damian cemetery, Damiansville.

Moss Funeral Home in Breese handled the arrangements.
