Josephine Wellen, 103

Mrs. Josephine C. Wellen, a 103 year-old resident of Aviston, died at her home on Wednesday, May 19th, 1999.

Born in Aviston on Feb. 26th, 1896, she was a daughter of John and Katherine Netemeier Markus. On Oct. 19th, 1921, in Aviston, she married Henry J. Wellen and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Edmund Wellen of rural Aviston; three daughters, Mrs. Jeanette Haake of Belleville and Regina and Edna Wellen, both of Aviston; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Wellen was a member of St. Francis Church and Altar Sodality of the church, Daughters of Isabella and Precious Blood Circle #718.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22nd, at St. Francis Church with Rev. Dan Friedman officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was at the Brefeld Funeral Home in Aviston.
