Dovie Swofford, 102

The Brefeld Funeral Home in Aviston was in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for long time area resident Mrs. Dovie L. Swofford were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20th, at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle. Rev. Steve Goodin officiated with burial in McKendree Chapel cemetery near Keyesport.

Mrs. Swofford died at National Healthcare Center in St. Louis on Thursday, Sept. 16th,1999, at the age of 102 years.

Born in Vandalia on Jan. 14th, 1897, she was a daughter of George and Nola C. Daniels Stone. On Dec.1st, 1915. In Pittsburg, Ill. she married Charles Swofford. He preceded her in death.

Four daughters, Mrs. Loretta Brown and Mrs. Eliza Winter, both of St. Louis, Mrs. Aurelia Robert and Mrs. Mary Vohlken, both of Carlyle; one son, Verlin Swofford of Ontario, Calif.; 30 grandchildren, 105 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Iola Herman of New Melle, Mo., Mrs. Theresa Tipton of Hannibal, Mo., and Mrs. Martha Boegemann of Grafton, survive.

She was preceded in death by seven children, including Amelia "Nola" Potts, Ethel Carson and Gilbert Swofford and five brothers and sisters.

Prior to moving to St. Louis 12 years ago, Mrs. Swofford had, lived in the Keyesport/Carlyle area. She was a foster grandparent for 10 years at Warren G. Murray Development Center in Centralia.
