Robert Stein, 93

Robert H. Stein, 93, of East Alton, formerly of Shattuc, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 1994, at VIP Manor in Wood River.

Mr. Stein formerly owned-operated Stein Trucking in Shattuc, hauling milk to St. Louis.

He lived in Shattuc until moving to East Alton in 1986. He was born in Meridian Township on June 8, 1900, a son of Frank and Caroline Wedekemper Stein. On Dec. 27, 1927, he married Bessie I. Carson in Vandalia, and she survives.

In addition to his widow, survivors include one son, Loye Stein of Centralia; one daughter, Mrs. Margie Edel of East Alton, and three grandchildren.

Mr. Stein was a member of the Shattuc United Methodist Church and Shattuc Lions Club. He belonged to Masonic Lodge 932 AF & AM in Sandoval. From 1954 to 1970, heserved as Meridian Township road commissioner. He had also been a member of Carlyle Community Unit One school board for 20 years.

Rev. Lawrence Becker officiated at services today (Wednesday) at 2:00 p.m. at the Day Funeral Home in Sandoval. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia.
