Norman Stein, 72

Norman A. Stein, 72, of Shattuc, died at his home on Thursday, Oct. 19th, 2000. He was born in Shattuc on Nov. 20th, 1927, a son of Alfred and Hulda Reinkensmeyer Stein. He married Lucille Maibaum on Aug. 7th, 1949, in Ferrin and she survives.

In addition to his widow, survivors include two sons, Steve Stein of Salem and Scott Stein of DeKalb; two grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Vera Rommelmann of Ferrin and one brother, Lenard Stein of Evansville, Ind.

Mr. Stein served in the United States Army in the Korean War. He then managed Ferrin Cooperative Exchange until 1958, when he began farming with his brother. In 1965 he became farm representative for First National Bank in Carlyle and held various positions at the bank until his retirement in 1993. They included officer in charge of loan department, cashier, executive vice president and President of the bank. At the time of his death, he was a member of the bank's board of directors.

He also served in various offices as a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Men's Club and Lutheran Laymen's League. He was active in the Shattuc Lions Club, Clinton County Holstein Association and Clinton County Heart Association. Mr. Stein was instrumental in the organization of the Clinton County East Public Water District and served as its treasurer for many years.

Rev. Mitch Schuessler officiated at services held at Bethlehem Lutheran at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21st. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle.
