Thelma F. Cohoon

Thelma F. Cohoon, 89, of Carlyle died Friday, March 28, 2008, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese.

She was born on Jan. 9, 1919, in Irishtown Township in Clinton County, the daughter of Allie and Dollie (Carroll) Higgins. She married Harold L. Cohoon on October 9, 1937, in St. Louis, Mo., and he preceded her in death on June 11, 1986.

She is survived by two daughters, Wanda Melton and husband Dennis, and Karen Gulley and husband Harley, all of Carlyle; a son, Darnel Cohoon and wife Sue of Pensacola, Fla.; four sisters, Mildred Tracy of Carlyle, Mary Louise Zinn of Huey, Lucille Krieger of Carlyle and June Sheets and husband Wyman of Carlyle; a brother, Paul Higgins and wife Clara of Kansas City, Kan.; four grandchildren, Todd Melton and wife Stacy of Atlanta, Ga., Lorien Schleper and husband Tim of Breese, Chris Hollenkamp and wife Mary of Carlyle, and Aaron Cohoon and wife Darla of Pensacola, Fla.; and 12 greatgrandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Gerita Miller; and four brothers, Roy, Everet, Elmer and Delbert Higgins.

She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Carlyle. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting and received many awards for her quilting.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Carlyle, with Rev. Mark Goldman officiating.

Burial followed at the Carlyle Cemetery.

Frerker Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
