Virgil M. Herrin of rural Patoka, a sister [sic] of Mrs. Vivian Bright of Boulder, died at St. Mary's-Good Samaritan Hospital in Centralia on April 2nd, 2002. He was 84 years old.

A son of Alva and Ida Epping Herrin, he was born Aug. 11th, 1917, in Breese. On March 4th, 1939, in St. Louis, he married Opal Bryant, and she survives.

In addition to his widow, survivors include two sons, Jim Herrin of rural Vernon and Gary Herrin of rural Kell; one daughter, Mrs. Nancy Ross of rural Odin; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Herrin of Patoka and five sisters, Mrs. Bright of Boulder, Mrs. Doris Bright and Mrs. Shirley Cox, both of Pekin, Mrs. Wanda Wallis of Market Heights and Mrs. Dorothy Beckman of Creve Coeur, Mo.

Four brothers, Kenneth, Darrell, Robert and Alvin Herrin and two sisters, Eleanor and Patty, preceded him in death.

Mr. Herrin was a retired farmer and had been manager for 40 years of Patoka Grain Elevator. He was a member of Mound Chapel Church where he had served as church superintendent, Sunday School teacher, treasurer and secretary for more than 70 years. He had served in World War II in the U.S. Army.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 5th, at the Day Funeral Home in Patoka, with Rev. David Rogers officiating. Burial followed in Pratt cemetery near Patoka.
