Dorothy Eleanor Vogel, 79, of Taylorville, died Thursday, December 20, 2007.

She was born February 25, 1928, in Beckemeyer, the daughter of Jacob and Josephine Wessling Goldsmith. She married Earl C. Vogel and he preceded her in death on February 3, 1995.

Mrs. Vogel was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylorville, Catholic Daughters of America, member and past president of V.F.W. Auxiliary, a long time member of St. Vincent Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and a die hard Cub fan. She had previously been active in prison ministry; she had been a cook in the school cafeteria system and had owned a catering business.

Surviving are her children, Frank Vogel and wife Esther of Petersburg, Ruth Hanauer and husband Bob of Stonington and John Vogel and wife Mary of Taylorville; a sister, Lorraine Hoffarth of Freeburg; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; two sons, Thomas Joseph Vogel and David C. Vogel; and a daughter, Margaret Ann Ess.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 27 in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Alan Hunter, Fr. Dan Willenborg, Fr. Bob Porter and Fr. Larry Brunett officiating.

Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery

McClure Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
