Mrs. Mary MEIER, 78, Called to Death

Aged Carlyle Woman, Mother of 12 Children, Had Been Ill Three Months.

Mrs. Mary Ann Meier, aged 78 yrs 1 month and five days , a continuous resident of Carlyle since 1905 died at the home of her son, Alois Meier, on west Clinton Street at 5:10 o'clock Friday evening. She had been bedfast for the nine weeks of a three month illness. Her demise was due to infirmities of old age.

Funeral services were held in the St. Mary's Church Tuesday morning with Rev. B. W. HILGENBERG, pastor, officiating at the 9 0'clock requiem high mass. Mrs. Meier's remains had lain in state until funeral time at the Frerker Funeral Home . Interment was made in the St. Mary's Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were six grandsons of the deceased: Fred LYMAN, Joe LYMAN, Joe HUENE, Bernard HUENE, Henry HEMPEN, and Leo HEMPEN , Jr.

Obituary

Mrs. Meier was born north of Huey December 28,1861, a daughter of the late Herman and Elizabeth (FRAZIER) DRENCHPOHL, who were natives of Germany. She was reared on a farm north of Huey. She united in marriage in October 1878, to Theodore MEIER. The ceremony was performed in the St. Mary's Church, Carlyle, by the late Rev Anton DEMMING, then pastor. Lived in Breese many years. They first resided north of Huey, then on a farm in Little Prairie, but for many years prior to Mr. Meier's death in 1905, they lived in Breese. Following his passing away, the family came to Carlyle. Her home since residing with her son, Alois.

Mrs. Meier was the mother of 12 children, but only three, two sons and a daughter, with 30 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and two brothers

survive her.

Surviving sons are Fred Meier and Alois Meier, both of Carlyle. The surviving daughter is Minnie, Mrs. Frank LYMAN, also of Carlyle. Surviving brothers are Frank DRENCKPOHL of Huey and Herman DRENCKPOHL of Centralia. Preceding her in death were nine children, two sisters, two brothers, and a half brother. The deceased children were Nettie, who died in infancy: Elizabeth first wife of the late Joe HUENE Sr., who died in 1904: Annie, Mrs. Leo HEMPEN, who passed away December 10, 1931: Bernadine, the second wife of the late Joe HUENE, Sr. who died April 10,1932: Frank Meier who died January 8,1919: William and Henry Meier sons died in infancy: and two children who passed away unnamed. The two sisters were Emma , Mrs. Frank AMSINGER, and Flora, Mrs. Ed AMSINGER both of St. Louis, dead many years. The brothers were William and Henry DRENCKPOHL, both of Centralia: the half brother was John, also of Centralia, dead many years. Mrs. Meier was the oldest in point of age of the Married Ladies Sodality of St. Mary's parish. She had been a member for more than 30 years. We join in mourning her passing and in extending sincere sympathy to her bereaved.
