Died – At the residence of Abel FIKE, in this county, on the 16th of Oct., Moses LAND in the 85th year of his age. Mr. Land was born in the state of Virginia, Halifax county, from which place his parents removed to North Carolina, when he was young where he enlisted in the 16th year of his age, in which he served, and was honorably discharged at the close of the war. While in service he was in the battles of Guilford, Camden Eutaw Springs and the siege of "Forty-Six". After returning from service, he married Charity BESHEARS of Rockingham County, North Carolina with whom he lived a little over half century up to her death which happened in May 1834. He raised 7 sons and 2 daughters – them and their increase numbered at his death 201 living and 47 dead. He emigrated to this state in the year 1817. Mr. Land was an unassuming, chaste, humble and devoted Christian of the Baptist denomination and is a remarkable fact that he never took a dose of medicine in all his life. He was a pensioner near 30 years. He was highly esteemed by all his acquaintances.
