Supervisor Apple Has Sudden Death

Chairman of the County Board Passes Away at his Home In Tamalco Township

Heart Failure Is Cause

Expired While Members of His Family Were Temporarily Out of Room

J. B. APPLE, supervisor of Tamalco township and chairman of the board of supervisors, died suddenly at this home one and a half miles southeast of Tamalco at seven o’clock Monday morning of heart failure.

Mr. Apple had been ill for two weeks with a complication of diseases including neuralgia, which suddenly attacked his heart and he died alone while Mrs. Apple and members of his family were out of the room, preparing his breakfast. He had been able to sit up since Friday.

The news of Mr. Apple’s death reached Greenville just prior to the convening of the meeting of the board of supervisors and that body, after passing resolutions to his memory, adjourned.

Mr. Apple was elected chairman of the board two years ago. He has served as a member of the board for several terms. The only other office he ever held was that of highway commissioner of Tamalco township.

The funeral services were held at the family residence at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday by Rev. A. D. HOCKER of Keyesport and the body was interred in the Duncan cemetery.

James Buchanan Apple was born December 17, 1856 in Hancock county, Ind., and was only a little past 53 years of age at the time of his death.

He came to Bond county in 1873 and settled in Tamalco township, where he has since resided. On October 17, 1880 he married Miss Ida SCOTT of Tamalco township, who with three children survive.

The children are Mrs. Lillie ZOBRIST of Jewett, Ill., Scott Apple and Miss Mabel, who lives at home. Mr. Apple is also survived by three brothers and three sisters, L. C., R. K., and J. S. APPLE of this county, Mrs. Caroline EMERY of Tamalco, Mrs. Mary OWEN of Missouri and Mrs. Eddina KESNER of Huey, and two grandchildren.

Mr. Apple was a member of the Odd Fellows, Court of Honor, Modern Woodmen and Mutual Protective League. His daughter, Mrs. Zobrist arrived Saturday and his son-in-law, Dr. Zobrist, arrived Monday night. All the relatives were present to attend the funeral except one sister of the decedent, Mrs. Owen of Missouri.

The funeral, which was largely attended, was conducted under the auspices of the Odd Fellows of Keyesport and the Woodmen, Court of Honor and the M P L were also in line. Six nephews of the decedent, Jacob, Charles and Clay APPLE, Clinton and Clem EMERY and Paul KESNER were the pall bearers.

Greenville people in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Sam WANNAMAUGHER, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. BLIZZARD, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight WISE and Sheriff Brown, Deputy Sheriff Hubbard and M. M. SHARP.
