The sad intelligence of the death of Mrs. James Barkley was a shock to the community last Sunday morning. Death resulted from heart failure and was entirely unexpected…about 11 o’clock she was discovered by her daughter, Miss Lina, in a dying condition. She expired a few minutes later.

Elizabeth Jones was born in Georgetown, Scott County, Kentucky, on October 27, 1821. She was united in marriage with James Barkley October 17, 1841, in her native town. To this union five children were born, three daughters, Sarah, wife of Edwin Fink, Lina, and La Lee, and two sons, May and Guy Carleton Barkley. All of the children are living in this city except La Lee, who died April 11, 1866. Deceased removed with her husband to St. Louis in 1857, where they resided until 1859, when they moved to Weston, Platt County, Missouri. In 1860 the family removed to Carlyle, where deceased has resided continuously until her demise… the remains were conveyed to the Carlyle Cemetery, where they were tenderly laid to rest.
