BRADY, Patrick

Mr. Patrick Brady died at the home of his son, Peter Brady, near Shattuc, Saturday, February 23, 1907 at 12.55am, and

was buried from St. Mary's Catholic church, Carlyle, on Monday, the 25th, at 10 am. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Father Muenier, of Sandoval, the deceased being a member of the parish and was followed to the grave by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends and tenderly laid to rest beside his wife in St. Mary's cemetery.

"The subject of this sketch was born March 17, 1812, in the County Cavan, the parish of Ineskeen, King Court, Ireland. At the age of 18 years he left his native home and went to what was then the little village of Lindsay, Canada, where he made his home for a number of years. In the year 1841, he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Connor, who preceeded him to the grave 18 years ago. To this union was born 10 children, three of whom have died, an infant daughter, a son, Frank, and another daughter, Mrs. Frank Ackerman. The surviving children are Mrs. John O' Neill, Mrs. Kate O' Connell, Mrs. Wm. Crause, Mrs. John Curley, and three sons, John, Peter and Michael Brady. He also left 20 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren to mourn his loss.

In December, 1860, he left his Canadian home and came to Clinton county, Illinois, where he lived for 47 years. At the time of his death he was the oldest man in the county, being 95 years old. He was a man of rare intelligence and was highly respected and loved by all who knew him. He possessed a remarkable memory and would often entertain his listeners for hours with incidents of the early years, which would be equal to reading history and all who heard him wondered at his great memory for a man of his age. He was very fond of his home ad was best pleased when surrounded by his children and grandchildren. No monarch was so happy as he sat in his arm chair surrounded by his great grandchildren and was teaching them tricks and games he used to play 90 years ago."

The deceased, Mr. Patrick Brady, who was an uncle of Mr. Nicholas Brady, of South Ops, will be remembered by the majority, of our old pioneers. He settled in Lindsay in 1834, and until the time of his departure was a man of much prominence in the community. He was a great athlete in those days, and was

the central figure at every raising or other gathering. Having picked up considerable surgical knowledge, his services were in frequent requisition in the neighborhood when broken limbs had to be cared for. Mr. Brady visited Lindsay a number of times since his departure in 1860, and enjoyed meeting old friends.
