Scott Apple, 81, Dies Monday At Utlaut Hospital

Funeral Services For Retired Farmer Are Held Today

Scott APPLE, 81, of this city, retired farmer and elevator manager, died at 9:06 p.m. Monday, August 7 at Utlaut Memorial Hospital. A patient at the hospital since June, Mr. Apple had been making moderate progress, but was stricken Monday, and died a few hours later from a blood clot. He had been in failing health for five years, suffering from heart complications.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Donnell Funeral Home, the Rev. Dallas A. Newby officiating. Interment was in Duncan cemetery. Memorial services were conducted Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home by Sherwood Lodge No. 879, I.O.O.F. of Keyesport and Clark Lodge No. 3, I.O.O.F. of this city.

Edward Scott Apple was born January 18, 1886 in Tamalco township, Bond county, the son of James Buchanan and Ida (SCOTT) Apple, and was aged 81 years, six months and 19 days. Following his graduation from the public schools, he took a business course at Greenville College and later became manager of the Keyesport Equity Union Elevator. In 1927 he became manager of the Alhambra Grain and Feed Co. which position he held until his retirement in 1948. Besides being manager of the elevators, he followed farming pursuits.

On March 24, 1906 he married Emma Mary LODDICK, and they were the parents of four children: Harold S. of east of Tamalco, Freeland L., of Joliet, Mrs. Dorothy MILLS of west of Tamalco, and a daughter who died in infancy. Also surviving are his wife, five grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and a sister Mabel, wife of G. O. QUAYLE of Decatur. Preceding him in death were two brothers and two sisters in childhood and a sister Lillie, wife of the late Dr. Ben ZOBRIST.

He was a charter member of the Bond County Farm Bureau, member of Sherwood Lodge No. 879, I.O.O.F. of Keyesport, and associate member of Clark Lodge No. 3, I.O.O.F. of Greenville.
