Ralph Chanault SCOTT, 83, of Carlyle, died Tuesday, Jan 11, 1994, at his home after an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 14, 1910 in England, Ark., son of David and Grace (CALDWELL) SCOTT. He married Erna SPREHE Dec 25, 1939 in Carlyle, and she survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mary DORSCH of Princeton and Janice KAULING of Carlyle, and three grandchildren.
Mr. Scott served as the Carlyle Postmaster from 1954 to 1979. Prior to that, he operated Scotty's Café from 1930 to 1950 and later Scott's Drug-Sundries from 1950 - 1954, both in Carlyle. He was the Mayor of Carlyle from 1950 - 1954. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operation, and was a past member of VFW Post 3523 and American Legion Post 404, both in Carlyle; Lions Club, Salem Elks Club and U. S. Postmasters Association. He served all elective offices in the American Legion, including a term as State Commander in 1972.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan 14 at Zieren Day Funeral Home in Carlyle with Rev. Loy Schlote officiating. Interment will follow in the Carlyle Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. until time of the service Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the funeral home.
