JOHN H. WELLEN, 72, AVISTON, DEAD

John H. Wellen, 72, a resident of the Aviston vicinity for 57 years and once a prominent farmer of that community, died at the Scared Heart hospital in Aviston early Tuesday morning. Death was due to arterio-sclerosis [sic]. He had been bedfast seven weeks, when taken to the hospital Monday.

Funeral services will be held this morning, Friday, at 8:30 o'clock from the Brefeld funeral parlors to the St. Francis church in Aviston, Interment will be in the St. Francis cemetery.

Mr. Wellen was born in Holland January 28, 1867. He came to the United States with his parents in 1882. They settled at Aviston.

He was twice married. His first wife, Theresa Rakers, who he wed in 1892, died December 26, 1907. They had seven children, three of who survive. His second wife, the former Mrs. Emma McGrath, who he married in 1912, passed away January 11, 1931. Two of their three children survive.

Surviving are three sons, Henry and August Wellen of Aviston and Ben Wellen of Trenton, and two daughters, Anne, Mrs. Elmer Baum, and Sophia, Mrs. Edgar Matlock, of St. Louis.

We join in lamenting the passing of Mr. Wellen and in extending sincere sympathy to his bereaved.
