HERMAN RAKERS PASSES AWAY AT ST. MARY'S HOME

(The Carlyle Union Banner - Friday, August 20, 1943)

Herman Rakers, a resident of Carlyle for many years, died Thursday night of last week at St. Mary's Home after a lingering illness at the age of 81 (y)ears, 11months and 7 days.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at nine o'clock at the St. Mary's church with interment in St. Mary's cemetery.

Deceased was born September 5, 1861, in Hanover, Germany, coming to this country when still a young man.

June 9, 189 [sic], he was united in marriage with Miss Katherine Sautmann and settled on a farm in Irishtown. About twenty years ago they discontinued farming and moved to heir home in the northwest section of Carlyle, where his wife preceded him in death, April, 1934.

Mr. Rakers continued to live in his home until about five years ago, when he was stricken with paralysis and was taken to St. Mary's Home for the Aged, where he was cared for until his death.

The Rakers had no children and he was the last member of a family of five children. Two brothers, Henry and Albert Rakers, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Stoff and Mrs. Theresia Wellen, all of Aviston and vicinity, have preceded him in death. His only surviving relatives are a large number of nephews and nieces.
